SV Muhammad Ali speaking to newsmen

ALI: "You see, America needs Africa. America needs natural resources. America needs oil. For America to be rescued in her idea, and for Africans to help America after what America did with South Africa in the '76 Olympics, America would bo on such a world spot, she could never come to the Middle East and say 'We need oil'. She can never justify that. Africans then could say: 'You all in such a great position now to fight South Africa. ' You all in a good position now to get your wishes. You all in a good position now to....get your wishes. You all in a good position now to get America to put the pressure on South Africa. If you can come to these ideals which we have, and if this thing works, then you say' O.K. America. The Olympics is stopped. Your point is proved.' I would do it. I would have to say 'O.K. Now what you going to do with South Africa? We did what you want. Now what you going to do? You put on a real spot, I say this is the best time in the history for all Africa to get together and boycott the Olympics, help stop the Olympics. Then you go to Washington. I will go with you ... if I don't, take a pistol and shoot me. .. America will ... Can you see the spot America will be on? For her to ... look to you to ask her...And if I was such an Uncle Tome...if I was the enemy of you I wouldn't say this. I am putting America on the spot since they told me to represent them. America would be...there is no way America couldn't put the foot down on South Africa if you come to her aid in this ideal...This is the best bargain position in the world."
