Background: Israeli Prime Minister Mrs Gold Meir left Lod Airport, Tel Aviv on Sunday (October 18) for New York to attend the 25th Anniversary of the United Nations.
Strict security precautions were in force as the Israeli Prime Minister arrived. All vehicles entering the airport underwent a thorough check, and passengers travelling on the same El Al flight as Mrs Meir were searched by special security officials.
Mrs Meir's trip came six weeks after her earlier visit to the United States for meetings with President Nixon and other top U.S. officials.
The Premier is expected to meet President Nixon and Secretary of State William Rogers again to discuss the reported Egyptian violations of the Suez Canal ceasefire. Also believed to be on the Agenda for discussion is United States aid to Israel.
At the U.N. Mrs Meir is expected to address the General Assembly later this week and meet many of the national leaders attending the celebrations.
She is also expected to visit Canada and Britain before returning to Israel in about three weeks time.
