Background: The World Yoga Conference took place this week (19-20 December) in New Delhi. Among the delegates who gave demonstrations of the mystic art was Jean Bernard Rishi, a Frenchman who runs the European Yoga Centre.
This was no ordinary conference for the Yoga experts. Their aim was to throw down a challenge to those scientists who have long questioned the validity of the ancient Psycho-Spiritual cult. In the past, gurus have been subjected to a variety of scientific studies.
During the four-day conference the delegates, who engaged in lengthy theoretical discussions, also witnessed demonstrations of some of the exercises that have helped dispel many of the myths associated with Yoga.
Before he began the European Yoga Centre, Jean Bernard Rishi taught Yoga in the North of India. He demonstrated several exercises designed to relax different parts of body.
About 170 delegates and 150 observers attended the conference. The largest delegation was from the United States, with 30 members.
