Background: In a passage way off the main road in Kingston-upon-Thames, a male swan (cob) keeps guard while the female (pen) hatches out three eggs in an improvised nest made from straw supplied by a human sympathiser. The They have been in this unconventional nesting place for eight days, and are causing great concern both to shoppers and shopkeepers.

Another new animal arrival in London: "Bulu" (little hairy one) the first Orang-Utan to be born at the London Zoo, was shown to the Press for the first time since her birth on Mar. 12. Clinging tightly to her mother "Toli", the tiny simian succeeded for quite a while in thwarting our cameraman's intention to film her "best side", but finally Head Keeper Larry Smith came to the rescue and "Bulu" debut was recorded for posterity.

"Charlie", "Bulu's" father, watched these antics for a while from a nearby cage, but soon lost interest and refreshed himself from a water container. He obviously remembers the time when he too was the object of great attention after being caught in the jungles of Borneo and brought to London in 1956.
