    IN ALL 48 GIRLS LINE UP FOR THE FINAL JUDGING, UNDERTAKEN BY A PANEL OF NINE. ThEY INCLUDED SIR LEARIE CONSTANTINE, THE ON-TIME TEST CRICKETER, ACTRESS MARTINE CAROL, SINGER JONNIE MATHIS, ACTOR BRODERICK CRAWFORD, THE MARCHIONESS OF TAVISTOCK AND DONALD CAMPBELL, THE SPEED ACE.

    SIXTEEN OF THE CONTESTANTS WERE CHOSEN FOR THE FINALS AND AFTER PARADING IN EVENING GOWNS AND SWIM SUITS AGAIN, SEVEN WERE SELECTED FOR THE FINAL ELIMINATION TO DECIDE THE WINNERS. EVENTUALLY, THE JUDGES NAMED MISS LANGLEY THE WINNER, WITH MISS UNITED STATES, 19-YEAR-OLD DIANNE LYN BATTS AS RUNNER-UP, AND MISS IRELAND, GLADYS WALLER, A 21-YEAR-OLD MANNEQUIN, WAS PLACED THIRD. ThE OTHER RUNNERS-UP IN ORDER WERE MISS AUSTRIA, INGRID KOPETZKY, AND MISS TAHITI, MARIE TAPARE.

    THE UNLUCKY TWO ELIMINATED FROM THE FINAL SEVEN WERE MISS CANADA, CAROL ANN TIDEY, AND MISS RHODESIA, LESLEY BUNTING.

    LESLEY LANGLEY'S ONE COMMENT ON HER WIN WAS: 'I THOUGHT MISS AMERICA WOULD WIN.' NOW LESLEY, WHO LIVES IN A ONE-ROOM FLAT IN LONDON, HAS A CASH PRIZE OF GBP2,500 STERLING AND CONTRACTS FOR PERSONAL APPEARANCES AND TRAVEL WHICH COULD EARN HER AN ADDITIONAL GBP30,000 OVER THE NEXT 12 MONTHS.

    MISS LANGLEY, WHO IS STATISTICALLY, 37-24-37, HOPES TO MAKE A CAREER IN FILMS. SHE HAD A BIT PART IN THE JAMES BOND EPIC, GOLDFINGER, WHEN SHE PLAYED THE ROLE OF A PILOT IN PUSSY GALORE'S 'FLYING CIRCUS'.
