Background: On March 13, the 3rd armoured cavalry brigade and the 5,000 rangers continued their operation on the North of Kompong Trach. These forces were under the command of colonel Dinh. the operation was to search and occupy the NVA 23rd sector bead-quarter. They did not meet any resistance from the enemy.
On the 16th four rangers battalions were lifted to the area 20 kilometres North-West of Kompong Trach to continue their searching operation at the Ph. Prasat village. There has not been any contact with the enemy. The rangers captured 10 Cambodian prisoners and one NVA obstetrician of the 23rd sector headquarter, Mr. Bui Thanh Hien. The also captured two Khmer Rouge liaison women.
