Background: The ancient walls of the Colosseum and rows of modern motor cars present a striking contrast for one of the city's more unusual religious events. Rome's patron saint of motorists is Saint Francesca and a day is set aside for cars, trucks and motor-cycles to receive their benediction from the vice-regent of Rome, Bishop Luigi Traglia. Large limousines, small runabouts - all receive the blessing; a blessing which such surely carry the prayer that they will serve man's comforts and needs and not main or destroy life on the busy roads of modern Rome.
