Background: Despite being heavily outnumbered in the Knesset, (Israel's Parliament), Mrs. Golda Meir decided on Sunday to form a Government. Her Labour Party has just fifty-eight seats in the one-hundred and twenty seat Parliament. Previously, she held power through a coalition with-the National Religious Party (MRP). But since the General Election in the New Year, the NRP have refused to reform the coalition.
To stay in office Mrs. Meir must count on their support on major issues. Her position is further weakened by General Dayan's refusal to rejoin the Government he served as defence Minister before the elections. Supporting him against Mrs. Meir are his own eight allies in the Labour ??? ??? the Pefi faction. Heaping the odds against her, two leaders of the ??? ??? apposition party, Likud, General Ariel Sharon and Shmuel ???hir, ??? olared their intention to bring down Mrs. Meir's Government at the ??? at opportunity.
