Background: America's Ambassador Jacob Beam and Communist China's Wang Ping-Nan entered Mysliwski Palace, Warsaw, October 10 for the seventh session in the series of talks aimed at bringing peace to Formosa.
The session began in an easier atmosphere - the Communist cease-fire was in force and Quemoy was being given a respite from the mainland shells.
During the session, which lasted two hours and 35 minutes, Mr. Beam urged that the cease-fire should continue.
Washington spokesmen were immediately optimistic that Mr. Beam's plea would be successful. Their optimism was justified. The Communists followed the talks by extending the cease-fire for a fortnight.
Session number eight in the Warsaw talks begins October 15.
