Background: STUDENT FLYERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, AND IN PARTICULAR THE COMMONWEALTH, ARE REGULARLY ENROLLED AT BRITISH UNITED AIRWAY'S FLYING SCHOOL, IN PERTH, SCOTLAND.

THE FLYING SCHOOL, WHICH HAS QUALIFIED MORE THAN 35,000 PILOTS ALREADY FOR CIVIL AIRLINES AND MILITARY AIR FORCES ROUND THE WORLD, IS THE ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND IN BRITAIN, AND POSSIBLY IN THE WORLD. IT HAS BEEN DUBBED BRITAIN'S "AIR UNIVERSITY".

SITUATED THREE MILES FROM THE CITY OF PERTH, BESIDE THE PICTURESQUE SCOTTISH RIVER TEY, IT TAKES IN STUDENTS TO TEACH THEM TO FLY - EITHER TO THE LESSER PRIVATE PILOT'S LICENCE STANDARD, OR TO THE MORE RIGOROUS COMMERCIAL PILOT'S LICENCE LEVEL.

OVERSEAS STUDENTS - ALL OF WHOM MUST BE OVER THE AGE OF 18 - DON THE SCHOOL'S UNIFORM FOR NINE MONTHS TO TAKE IN THE WHOLE FIELD OF COMMERCIAL FLYING, THROUGH FLYING, THE TECHNIQUES OF NAVIGATION AND RADIO COMMUNICATIONS AND AVIATION LAW BEFORE PASSING OUT.

NORMALLY, THEY ARE SENT TO THE SCHOOL FROM COMMERCIAL AIRLINES IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES.
