Background: THE MEN'S FINALS OF THE ALL-ENGLAND BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LONDON TOMORROW (SATURDAY) WILL BE AN ALL-ASIAN AFFAIR WITH AIK HUANG, THE 1966 CHAMPION, CLASHING WITH 18-YEAR-OLD INDONESIAN TAR RUDY HARTONO.

HARTONO, COMPETING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN EUROPE, GAINED HIS PLACE IN THE FINALS TONIGHT (FRIDAY), AFTER BATTLING THROUGH A GRUELLING SEMI-FINAL AGAINST DENMARK'S SVEN ANDERSON TO WIN 15-9, 12-15, 15-19.

MALAYSIAN TAN AIK HUANG WON THE OTHER SEMI-FINAL AND ENDED THE REIGN OF DENMARK'S ERLAND KOPS AS UNOFFICIAL WORLD CHAMPION WHEN HE DEFEATED THE 31-YEAR-OLD DANE 15-9, 15-9.

IT WAS SWEET REVENGE FOR THE 21-YEAR-OLD PENANG SCIENCE STUDENT, WHO WAS BEATEN BY KOPS IN LAST YEAR'S FINAL, WHEN KOPS TOOK THE TITLE FOR THE SEVENTH TIME.

KOPS, A COPENHAGEN BUSINESSMAN HAD ANNOUNCED THAT HE WAS QUITTING SINGLES PLAY AFTER THESE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND HE HAD HOPED TO BOW OUT AS UNDEFEATED CHAMPION. BUT HE WAS BEATEN BY AIK HUANG'S ARTISTERY AND POWER IN 44 MINUTES.

TOMORROW'S FINAL WILL BE THE FOURTH MEETING BETWEEN AIK HUANG AND HARTONO, WITH AIK HUANG LEADING 3-1 IN THE "SERIES".

AT THE END OF TONIGHT'S PLAY MR DAVID BLOOMER, PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL BADMINTON FEDERATION, PRESENTED THE THOMAS CUP, WON BY MALAYSIA LAST JUNE, TO THEIR TEAM CAPTAIN, TEH KEW SAN.
