SYNOPSIS: The scoring was opened for Algeria in the fifth minute of play when Bailheche put this one in the net to make it one-nil.
About 20,000 Algerians in the crowd at the Fifth of July Stadium in Algiers, the capital, were delighted to see their team go further into the lead in the 12th minute. Then, Betrouni scored after another Algerian attack.
Kenya's only goal came from a penalty in the 39th minute. A Kenyan player was fouled and this was converted by Wamelwa, to bring the score to two-one.
But Algeria's lead was soon widened again. This time a penalty was awarded after an Algerian player was fouled, and Tlemcani brought the score to three-one.
The final goal came late in the second half. Kenya attacked, but the manoeuvre was foiled by the Algerian goalkeeper. The Algerians recovered, returned to the attack, and scored again. Tlemcani put it in to bring the final score to four-one.
The game featured fast, open football and Kenya tried desperately hard to catch the goal-scoring Algerians. But their efforts were unrewarded.
