Background: At a public meeting in Delhi on Sunday (12 December) Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi appealed for calm and cooperation from the people while the battle with Pakistan continued.
SYNOPSIS: In Delhi, the capital of India, Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi appealed for calm and cooperation last Sunday from her people as long as the war with Pakistan continued. She was addressing a public meeting.
Hundreds of people turned out to hear the Prime Minister speak on the war. The occasion turned into a confidence-booster, with a Skin reading out patriotic poems.
Mrs. Gandhi spoke for more than forty minutes on the quick successes of the Indian army which, she said, in the East was on the doorstep of Dacca, and in the West inflicting heavy casualties on Pakistan army tank units. India later claimed that she had captured or destroyed one-hundred-and seventy-five tanks, and destroyed eight-three aircraft. A strong blow had been struck, Mrs. Gandhi said, for the freedom of Bangle Dash.
Mrs. Gandhi ales spoke of the implications of the war, thanking the Soviet Union for its diplomatic support especially at the United Nations. There are almost daily demonstrations here against the United States, who have condemned India....and many demonstrations in support of Russia.
