Background: The first conference of French-speaking African countries on the promotion of exports from developing countries is currently being staged in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The conference is scheduled to end on July 24.
The conference is being organised with the help of the Norwegian Development Agency and the International Commerce Centre, which has its headquarters in Geneva.
At the opening session of the conference Ivory Coast Economics and Finance Minister, Henri Konan Bedie said he envisaged an organisation which could research into export expansion, as well as examine problems of export agents, at a Government and Administration level.
M. Bedie also said he deplored the deterioration in the rates of exchanges given by developed countries, which hindered progress in Africa.
Among the experts on topics concerning the matters under discussion was M. Michel Diot, Professor of marketing at the Sorbonne in Paris.
