Background: The special guest of honour at the opening of the Canadian National Exhibition was the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr.Michael Ramsay.Within minutes of the opening, crowds began to surge forward to the various attractions.The cameraman's vantage on the top of the shell tower provided a perfect lookout -- and it seemed right from the start that the world famous million-dollar midway will get a boost in attendance.There are many attractions for all ages and this year's edition has topped the perennial favourites with bigger and better rides and shows.Some of them are making their first appearance at the "ex" -- having been in the world's fair at Seattle, Washington.The CNE hopes to top the figure of three million visitors of previous years.This is the eighty-fifth edition.
