Background: With a bare four weeks to Christmas, Londoners are busy preparing for the festive season.

Twenty-five magnificent chandeliers were switched on, Nov. 26, filling Regent Street - a main shopping centre - with their warm and glowing light, while crowds of Christmas shoppers thronged the stores, and wide-eyed children stared in wonderment at spellbinding toy displays.

Hung from cable stretched across the road, each of the 25ft high candelabra is illuminated by 700 bulbs. Chains of smaller lights are strung along the house fronts either side.

As shoppers stop and gaze at London's splendid Christmas sparkle, negotiations are already under way to sell the chandeliers. Said a representative of the Regent Street Association of Shopkeepers: "After the lights - the costliest we have yet done - come down on January 2, we have no further use for them. We get back only a fraction of the initial cost but they are eagerly snapped up by the local authorities and other bodies throughout the country."
