    Background: EXPERTS ON PUBLIC HEALTH FROM TWENTY EIGHT AFRICAN NATIONS ARE MEETING IN KINSHASA THIS WEEK FOR THE SIXTEENTH ANNUAL SESSION OF THE REGIONAL AFRICAN COMMITTEE OF THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION. THE MEETING WAS OFFICIALLY OPENED ON MONDAY BY PRESIDENT MOBUTU OF THE CONGO-KINSHASA.

    AMONG THE ITEMS TO BE CONSIDERED ARE THE CONTROL OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASE, THE TRAINING OF MEDICAL PERSONNEL AND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES.

    THE MEETING IS SCHEDULE TO LAST TENS DAYS.

    THE ANNUAL REPORT TO THE MEETING LISTS 134 PROJECTS WHICH THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION IS HELPING TO IMPLEMENT IN 35 AFRICAN COUNTRIES, INVOLVING EXPENDITURE OF 9-MILLION DOLLARS (MORE THAN GBP3,200,00 STC).

    IN HIS WELCOMING ADDRESS PRESIDENT MOBUTU PRAISED THE WORK DONE IN THE PAST BY THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION AND THE AFRICAN REGIONAL COMMITTEE.

    ITS WORK, HE SAID WAS AIMED AT PROVIDING EVERYONE IN THE WORLD WITH FACILITIES FOR GOOD HEALTH BY COMBATTING DISEASE.
