SYNOPSIS: General Mohammed Siad Barre, Chairman of Somalia's Revolutionary Command Council, arrived in Cairo on Monday for a brief stopover on his way to Moscow. He was greeted at Cairo airport by President Anwar Sadat and other Egyptian leaders. General Siad was to spend only a day in Cairo before continuing his journey.
General Siad, accompanied by President Sadat, inspected a special guard of honour.
Both General Siad and president Sadat were presented with bouquets of flowers by schoolchildren as part of the welcome. The General had a brief but friendly talk with a group of wellwishers before leaving the airport.
In Cairo the Somalian leader was taken to the tomb of the late President Gamal Abdul Nasser, where he was to lay a wreath alongside others already there.
General Siad was beginning 2-week tour which will also take him to the Soviet Union, Syria, and Iraq.
