Background: STRONG WINDS AND DRIVING RAIN MADE CONDITIONS DIFFICULT FOR THE THIRD GRAND PRIX OF BRUSSELS, HELD ON A ROAD CIRCUIT NEAR THE BELGIAN CAPITAL ON APRIL 1. THE FIRST PLACE WENT TO WILLY MAIRESSE OF BELGIUM DRIVING AN EXPERIMENTAL FERRARI (NO 10).

A LARGE CROWD BRAVED THE WEATHER TO WATCH A LINE-UP OF INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONS COMPETE FOR TOP HONOURS. JOACHIM BONNIER OF SWEDEN, DRIVING A PORSCHE NO 16, WAS SECOND, AND INNES IRELAND OF BRITAIN, IN LOTUS NO 2, WAS THIRD.

MAIRESSE, WHO FINISHED THIRD IN THE FIRST HEAT, AND WON THE SECOND, QUICKLY MOVED TO THE FRONT IN THE FINAL HEAT AND MAINTAINED THIS POSITION TO THE FINISH.

FASTEST LAP FOR THE DAY WAS BY STIRLING MOSS IN A LOTUS, WHO COVERED THE 2.8 MILE CIRCUIT AT 84.85 MILES AN HOUR (136.560 KM P.H.). HE WAS LATER FORCE TO RETIRE.
