Background: Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Mohammed Zayyat arrived in London today (Sunday) on the second leg of his three-nation European tour. He has already spent two days in Italy, and will leave for Brussels on Wednesday (September 20).

During his stay in London he is to hold talks with British Foreign Secretary Sir Alec Douglas-Home.

Security at London's Heathorw Airport was very tight--and it was reported that armed police were brought in to reinforce the traditionally unarmed British police at the airport. The aircraft carrying the Egyptian statesman arrived one and a half hours late. The airline claims it was due to special security searches carried out at Rome airport, and the Italian police say it was only due to air traffic congestion.

During talks on economic and trade relations with Italian Foreign Minister Giuseppe Medici, Dr. Zayyat was told that Italy would step up projects for technical cooperation to Egypt.

SYNOPSIS: As the aircraft carrying the Egyptian Foreign Minister landed at London's Heathrow Airport on Sunday, some of the strictest security measures ever seen at the British terminal were in force. Doctor Mohammed Zayyat flew in from Rome, where he had held two days of talks with his Italian counterpart, Giuseppe Medici.

The security measures for the Egyptian statesman are reported to have included armed police--a very rare occurrence among the traditionally unarmed British police force. During his stay in London, Dr. Zayyat is holding talks with British Foreign Secretary Sir Alec Douglas-Home before continuing to Brussels on the final leg of his European tour.
