Background: President Nasser of the UAR after his talks with Prime Minister Nehru of India flew to Karachi apr 10 for a six-day visit as the guest of Pakistani President Mohammad Ayub Khan.
The two Presidents met at the airport to the salute of 21 guns. Thousands of Pakistanis gave a rousing welcome to President Nasser as he drove with President Ayub Khan through Karachi to the presidential palace. Flags of both countries decorated the 11-mile route.
The two soldier-Presidents were meeting for the first time. After talks Apr12, President Nasser takes leave of his host to fly 1000 miles across India to East Pakistan to visit Dacca. Apr14 he again flies over Northern India - in the opposite direction - to visit Lahore in West Punjab, Pakistan's North-east province; and Apr??? he will fly to Peshawar in Pakistan's North-west Frontier Province. The President is due to leave for Cairo Apr16.
