Background: Jordan's new Prime Minister Mr. Ahmed Al-Lawzi arrived in Cairo late on Monday (29 November) to join other delegates to the joint Arab Defence Council Meeting.
Mr. Lawzi flew to Cairo shortly after being appointed Prime Minister to succeed Mr. Wasfi Tell -- who was assassinated as He entered his hotel on Sunday.
The new Prime Minister of Jordan arrived amid very strict security precautions.
SYNOPSIS: Jordan's new Prime Minister, Mr. Ahmed Al-Lawzi arrived to attend the joint Arab Defence Council meeting in Cairo on Monday amid the strictest security precautions. Mr. Lawzi succeeds Mr. Wasfi Tell -- who was assassinated as he entered the Sheraton Hotel only the previous day.
Once Mr. Lawzi was safely inside along with other delegates, security men made a thorough check of all other people entering the building. The meeting was drawing towards its close -- and ended on Tuesday morning after an all-night session with a call for a co-ordinated Arab effort against Israel. During their search, security men found a revolver -- apparently being carried by a member of the Jordanian Prime Minister's delegation. Because of the security precautions -- newsmen were not allowed into the conference room during the final session.
As Mr. Lawzi represented Jordan during the final hours of the meeting, detectives continued to probe the circumstances of his predecessors death.
