Background: The Charge D'Affaires in West Germany of the People's Republic of Chine, Mr. Wang Shu, arrived in Bonn on Friday (1 December) to open his country's first embassy in West Germany.
Mr. Wang, a former journalist, arrived with five other Chinese officials who comprised the advance party to the new mission in Bonn. The establishment of diplomatic relations was officially announced in October this year during a visit to Peking by the West German Foreign Minister, Walter Scheel.
Mr. Wang was chief correspondent of the New China News Agency (Hsinhua) in Bonn for three years until he returned to Peking in October to prepare for his new assignment. He negotiated the establishment of diplomatic ties in Bonn last September.
