    MS, CU Some of the 34 Naval officers and men lined up on the dockside of the Keelung Harbour near Taipei upon their returning from a victory at sea in which they sunk 3 Communist torpedo boats near Matsu island.

    Background: In the morning at 0800 hours of the 19th February 1958, PF-81, PC-104, PC-105 and PC-116 of the Northern Area Patrol Group, 62 Task Force, Nationalist Chinese Navy, encountered the attack launched by eight Chinese Communist torpedo boats on the waters north west of Chihsingchiao outside of estuary of the Ming River. Battle was immediately engaged and raged hot. Due to the high degree of combat readiness and alertness maintained by the Nationalist Chinese naval officers and men, this advantageous opportunity was promptly seen and taken. Through valorous morale and proficient technique, three Communist torpedo boats were sunk and another three were damaged. This sea victory achieved on the second day of the Chinese New Year, it showed the Nationalist Chinese Navy's traditional loyalty and bravery. In recognition of this distinguished performance, 34 Nationalist naval officers and men of the navy squadron which chalked up the sea victory off Matsu were duly decorated by Admiral Liang Shu-chao. Nationalist's Navy Commander-in-chief, at a hero's reception held at the Keelung Harbour, and later, by Gen. Wang Shu-Ming, Chief-of-joint-staff at another welcome ceremony held in Taipei.
