Background: Kenyan and Ethiopian Ministers met in Nairobi on Saturday for top-level exchanges on issues affecting the two neighbouring countries. The meeting was of the Kenyan-Ethiopian Consultative Committee, set up seven years ago to provide for regular exchanges between the two countries. Ethiopia has recently applied to become part of the East African Community.
The Ethiopian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Ato Ketema Yifru and included Communication Minister Endalkachew Makonnen, who is seeking support for his candidatures as U Thant's successors as United Nations Secretary-General. The Kenyan Foreign Minister, Dr Njoroge Mungai, headed his country's delegation, which also included the Chief of Defence, Staff Major General Ndolo.
