Background: More than 200 professors and lecturers of Delhi University -- many of them women -- condemned President Nixon and called for an immediate halt of United States bombing in North Vietnam on Monday (April 24) in a demonstration outside the United States Information Service offices.

A strong contingent of police guarded the building. But the demonstration was peaceful. The protestors handed over a memorandum to a United States official -- and then went to the North Vietnamese Embassy to express their sympathy.
