Background: The ship 'Port Sydney' was filmed by VISNEWS unloading a strange cargo at Adelaide, South Australia, recently. A zoological reception committee took delivery of a Kodiak bear--first ever in South Australia-and a pair of Syrian bears. Sent from the London Zoo they were bound for the Adelaide Zoo.

Although described as 'fairly docile', waterside workers kept a respectful distance as the ten hundredweight Kodiak bear--one of the world's largest species of bear--was hoisted off the deck and unloaded on to the quayside.

After a truck-ride from dockside to zoo, 'Barney' the Kodiak bear is manhandled into his new quarters. The two Syrian bears were a much simpler affair and soon made themselves at home under the faintly curious gaze of other zoo inhabitants.
