Background: The street in Havana before the Communist Chinese Consulate was roped off Sept 11 as Manuel Luis, President of Cuba's new-formed "Alliance with Democratic China", gathered with over a thousand Cubans to pay honour to a Chinese official at the Consulate. Speakers called for the strengthening of bonds with Communist China and denounced the Chinese Government in Formosa.

Cuba is the first country in the Americas to recognise Communist China, to sign trade agreements with her, and renounce ties with the rival Nationalist Chinese Government in Formosa. It was announced recently that Communist China would buy sugar from Cuba, whose sugar exports to USA met with drastic American economic bans as relations between the two countries deteriorated.
