Background: Princess Grace and Prince Rainier lll of Monaco ended their State visit to Ireland June 13 at the most glamorous ever staged in the Irish Republic. They were cheered by wildly excited crowds as they drove through the Dublin streets to the Castle, where President De Valera waited to greet this distinguished guests.
Police estimated the crowd at 150,000, the biggest they had ever handled. Outside Dublin Castle, hundreds of excited girls broke through the police cordons and screamed hysterically as police struggled to get them back. The crowds stretched all along the mile-route to the Castle from the Presidential Residence in Phoenix Park, where the Princess - former American film star Grace Kelly - and her husband have been guests of President Eamon de Valera and Mrs. De Valera since June 10.
