Background: Lingerie fashions for autumn went on display in London today (Tuesday) before an audience of international fashion buyers and writers. The emphasis was on pastel-toned, feminine nightwear for the coming season.
The showings today were organised in London by Courtaulds, the giant British fibres company. Most of the nightgowns, slips and housecoats were made from nylon or other synthetic substances.
One innovation of the autumn showings was the so-called "sleepwalkers", described by the manufacturers as "nightwear so gay and chic it doubles as wide-awake daywear." The sleepwalkers have been designed in abstract floral and paisley designs.
Nightdresses were mini, short and long, mostly in pastel colours. Trimmings included lace, ribbon and embroidery.
Housecoats were quilted, in wrap, zip and button styles.
