Background: The final of the world's first open tennis tournament - the British hard court championships at Bournemouth-was interrupted by rain today (Saturday) and will be concluded tomorrow (Sunday).

The finalists, Australian professionals Ken Rosewall and Rod Laver, were one set all and Rosewall leading 3-0 in the third set when they had to leave the centre court.

Laver, the top seed, and Rosewall, the second seed, are battling for the first prize of GBP1-thousand sterling with GBP500 sterling going to the runner-up. In the first set, the little left handed Laver broke Rosewall' serve early and went on to take it 6-3. Rosewall came back in the second set and forced numerous errors from Laver.

Laver had his chances to level but couldn't take advantage of them. Rosewall won the set 6-2. When rain interrupted play, Rosewall was clearly getting on top and had established a 3-0 lead in the third set.
