    Background: The United Nations Security Council voted unanimously to recommend to the General Assembly that it accept Barbados as the 122nd member of the world body.

    Lord Caradon -- the United Kingdom's Ambassador to the U.N. -- introduced the admissions resolution, which all 15 members of the Council approved.

    The General Assembly is expected to approve overwhelmingly the Security Council's recommendation.

    Barbados, a new island-nation in the Caribbean Sea, won its independence from the United Kingdom last week.
