    SYNOPSIS: World amateur champion, Milos Fisera, of Czechoslovakia, was seen ar rhe start if the race as the serious threat to the victory chances of the British rider, Chris Wreghitt.The course took the riders through the banks and woods near the finishing line, in to a sandbank, across a ford and, finally, a steep descent and a short climb into a quarry.

    Even the best riders had to carry their bikes up the steepest clopes and through the three stream crossings.The race is over 26 kilometres (about 16 miles) which involves ten laps of the course at Sutton Park.There were almost 100 riders taking part in this year's event.British champion Chris Wreghitt led easily for the first seven laps of the race.However, the strength of the Swiss competitor, Albert Zweifel, eventually were him down.Wreghitt had recently returned from a highly successful race meeting in Zurich where he defeated Zweifel convincingly.)y
    Zweifel crosses the finishing line the clear winner.But there was consolation fro Wreghitt.Although 26 seconds behind Zweifel he remains the number one challenger for the world amateur title in France in February.
