Background: Some weeks ago the Bishops of Cyprus gave a last warning to Makarios asking Him to resign as President of the Republic. To-day, was the last day of expecting His reply and His presence in the Synod. Makarios sent a reply but did not partake in the Synod. The bishops waited one hour after the time had expired and then sat for the Meeting.
