Background: Franco Zeffirelli, the Italian film director who presented the international film adaptations of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" and "Romeo and Juliet", is now well into making his latest film -- "Brother Sun and Sister Moon" -- the story of the young Saint Francis of Assisi.

The film is being filmed entirely on location in Italy, only a few miles from the town of Assisi where the story begun. Zeffirelli, one of the world's top directors, aims to present Saint Francis as the first of the young "drop outs." He associates the character of Saint Francis with any of the young people searching for fulfilment in Chicago, Milan, London or Paris.

As with "Romeo and Juliet", Zeffirelli has cast two unknown actors int he leading roles. Graham Faulkner, 23, plays Saint Francis and Judi Bowker, 17, plays Saint Clare.

SYNOPSIS: Franco Zeffirelli's "Brother Sun and Sister Moon" -- the story of the young Saint Francis of Assisi -- is now well into production on location in Italy.

The film is to star two unknown British actors in the leading roles. Graham Faulkner plays Saint Francis, and seventeen-year-old Judi Bowker plays Saint Clare. Zeffirelli, one of the world's top directors, also used unknown actors in his film adaptation of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet".

The director says he associates the character of Saint Francis with any young people searching for fulfilment in the modern world, and cast his latest film after a two year search for actors.

"Brother Sun and Sister Moon" is being filmed in Gubbio, only a few miles from Assisi where the story began. Saint Francis' father, played by Lee Montague, could be closely identified with parents of today. Zeffirelli hopes to portray Saint Francis as the first of the early "drop outs."
