Background: Hippe Charles Manson, aged 36, known as "God" and "Satan" to his followers, has been found guilty in Los Angeles of seven bloody and gruesome murders. Two of his girl "disciples", Patricia Krenwinkel, 23, and Susan Atkins, 22, were also found guilty of the seven slayings, including pregnant film star Sharon Tate. A third girl appearing with them at the seven-month long trial, 21-year-old Leslie Van Houte, was found guilty of two of the killings.
The "penalty" phase of the trial, in which the jury consider the sentences for the four killers, begins on Thursday (January 27). They face life imprisonment or death in the gas chamber.
