Background: An Egyptian delegation arrived in Bonn on Thursday (18 September) and called for a cooperative partnership between Egypt and West Germany.

The delegation was met by President Walter Scheel at the Villa Hammerschmidt in the West German capital.

At a banquet given in honour of the guests, the delegation's leader, Dr. Gamal EL Oteife, said Egypt and West Germany should work towards greater cooperation. Dr. Oteife, the Vice President of the Egyptian Peoples Assembly, drew attention to Egypt's new economic policy of opening its doors to the world. He said his country occupied a special position in the Afro-Arab area similar to West Germany's position in the European community.

The delegation was also received by Chancellor Helmut Schmidt at the Palais Schonburg.
