    Background: THE GERMAN INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION WAS OPENED IN WEST BERLIN YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) BY PROFESSOR KARL SCHILLER, WEST GERMAN MINISTER FOR ECONOMICS.

    OPENING THE EXHIBITION, PROFESSOR SCHILLER SPOKE AGAINST SUGGESTED RESTRICTIVE MEASURES IN WEST GERMANY TO COOL DOWN THE COUNTRY'S PRESENT ECONOMIC GROWTH. HE PROMISED THAT THE BOOM WOULD BE "NEITHER BEHEADED NOR THROTTLED".

    WITH THE THEME "QUALITY THROUGH RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT", THE EXHIBITION HAS MORE THAN 1,000 EXHIBITORS, ONE-QUARTER OF WHOM ARE FROM OUTSIDE WEST GERMANY.

    AUSTRIA, BRITAIN, CANADA, FRANCE, IRAN, ITALY AND THE UNITED STATES HAVE PAVILIONS.

    AMONG THE WEST GERMAN EXHIBITS IS A TESTING STATION FOR SHIP MODELS CONSTRUCTED BY THE UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE.

    THE BRITISH EXHIBIT STRESSES METALLURGICAL DEVELOPMENT, AIRCRAFT AND POWER STATIONS. AUTOMOBILE AND KITCHEN EQUIPMENT ARE ALSO ON DISPLAY.

    THE UNITED STATES HIGHLIGHTS INDUSTRIAL DESIGN AND A COMPARISON OF OLD AND NEW PRODUCTS.

    FRANCE HAS MODELS OF THE CONCORDE SUPERSONIC AIRLINER WHICH IS BEING BUILT JOINTLY WITH BRITAIN, AND A MODEL OF A VERTICAL TAKE-OFF AIRCRAFT (VTO). THERE ARE ALSO FRENCH SATELLITES ON VIEW.

    ITALY CONCENTRATES ON INDUSTRIAL DESIGN.

    CANADA HAS A HYDROFOIL BOAT ON DISPLAY, AND AN ARCHITECTURAL EXHIBIT.

    IRAN IS REPRESENTED AT THE EXHIBITION BY ECONOMICS MINISTER DR. ALINAGHI ALIKHANI. THE IRAN PAVILION DEPICTS A LARGE VARIETY OF CARPETS.

    AUSTRIA CONCENTRATES ON HOLIDAY EQUIPMENT, AND HAS A HAFLINGER MOTOR CAR ON DISPLAY.

    THE GERMAN INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION WILL END ON OCTOBER 6.
