    Background: THE TWELFTH ANNUAL MOTOR SHOW FEATURING DISPLAYS OF AUTOMOTIVE ITEMS FROM 243 MANUFACTURERS WAS DECLARED OPENED IN TOKYO TODAY (OCTOBER 30). THE EXHIBITS RANGED FROM TRUCKS TO SLEEK PASSENGER CARS.

    FROM JAPAN ALONE THERE WERE ONE-HUNDRED-AND SIXTY-SEVEN MODELS OF 1966 PASSENGER CARS. ONE OF THEM WHICH STOLE THE SHOW IS THE "NISSAN PRESIDENT" WHICH IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAR EVER TO BE MADE IN JAPAN WITH A 4,000 C.C. MACHINE.

    A RANGE OF BRITISH AND RUSSIAN CARS ALSO ON DISPLAY. FROM MOSCOW WAS THE SLEEK-LOOKING SALOON "MOSCOVITCH" WHICH DREW A LARGE CROWD OF CAR ENTHUSIASTS.

    THE CORE OF JAPAN'S AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY IS MAINTAINED IN THE KANTO REGION CENTERING AROUND TOKYO. ALMOST HALF OF THE FOUR-WHEELED PASSENGER VEHICLES ARE PRODUCED IN THIS REGION COVERING 70 PER CENT OF PASSENGER CARS PRODUCED IN THE COUNTRY.

    THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY OF JAPAN HAS MADE RAPID PROGRESS IN RECENT YEARS. IN PARTICULAR THE PRODUCTION OF PASSENGER CARS HAS SHOWN AN EXPLOSIVE INCREASE. BACKED BY AGGRESSIVE DOMESTIC SALES WITH INCREASING OVERSEAS DEMAND THE OUTLOOK OF JAPAN'S FOUR-WHEELED AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY IS BRIGHT.
