Background: Ten days after the Cuban Government broke off diplomatic relations with Nationalist China, Nationalist Chinese Ambassador Dr Henry Liu Yu Wan left the island by aircraft, Sept 12. At the airport to see him off were the Ambassadors of several South American countries and United States Ambassador Bonsal. The Cuban Government has established relations with Peking.
Most of the papers and documents of the Embassy have been sent to other Nationalist Chinese Ambassadors in Latin America. Various members of Dr Liu Yu Wan's staff left on the same plane, including Consul Ling Ling Lou Kuel and his family. Also on the aircraft were staff members of the Bank of China.
After the break off in relations the Cuban Government took over the Bank as most of the Chinese depositors tried to withdraw their money. The Nationalist Chinese Government is a major stockholder in the bank.
