Background: A group of 12 East German Christian Church leaders today (Wednesday) called on the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Michael Ramsey, at his official London residence Lambeth Palace.
The East Germans, headed by Dr. Gottfried Noth, the Lutheran Bishop of Dresden and Saxony, arrived in Britain yesterday (Tuesday) for a two-week officials visit during which they will meet British Church leaders of various denominational groups--some of which they already met earlier today before going to Lambeth Palace to visit the Primate of All England and Mrs. Ramsey.
The German group, which included the Superior of a Woman's Order and the medical director of a hospital, are the first religious delegation from East Germany to visit any country--in the East or the West.
Dr. Ramsey and Dr. Noth conversed in English and German for several minutes, exchanging views about their respective Churches and thanking each other for visiting and being received.
