Background: Trains and planes have carried candidates in Canada's present federal election campaign from coast to coast. Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, seen here, will probably have some 20,000 miles behind him by the time the country goes to the polls on March 31st. Although there have been no burning issues in this campaign the present problem of Canadian unemployment has been a major campaign topic........SOF.......

Lester B. Pearson - whose bow tie has become an election symbol -- has repeatedly hammered home the point that unemployment is due to the present Government's policies. In the last Canadian election - in June, 1957 - Mr Pearson's Liberal party was swept out of office after 22 years. Here's Mr Pearson on unemployment......SOF.......

So far the Conservatives have a slight edge, but the Liberals are fighting hard to return to office.
