Background: Palestinian refugees and Arabs in mourning for President Nasser moved in procession through Beirut yesterday (Thursday). Defying a ban against carrying arms in the Lebanon capital, guerrillas fired rifles and machine guns into the air in homage to the late President.
The procession coincided with the Egyptian leader's funeral in Cairo and the Beirut mourners carried a symbolic coffin. Chanting "Abdul Nasser is not oead" the grief-stricken procession made its way through they city as fusillades of gun-fire and the steady thump of dynamite charges exploding echoed across Beirut for the third day. At least four people are reported to have been accidentally killed by gunfire.
The procession ended at a mosque where religious services were held in memory of President Nasser.
