    Background: ISRAEL: TEL AVIV

Defending champion Aaron Krickstein defeated hometown favourite Shahar Perkis 6-1, 6-4 Saturday to win the 90,000 dollar Israeli Grand Prix.

The 17 year old American won the match with little difficulty on the same court where he won his first international tennis tournament one year ago starting a string of victories that has pushed him to the 13th place in the ATP rankings.

Perkis, 21, Israeli's number two racket was playing his first Grand Prix final. "and might have been a little nervous" said Krickstein after the match.

Both players began timidly and defensively, rarely leaving the baseline. Throughout the match Krickstein had trouble with his powerful first service, but Perkis repeatedly slammed volleys into the net.

Krickstein romped through the first set and broke Perkis' first serve in the second set.

Perkis broke in the second game of that set to begain a crowd-rousing rally. Using backhand slices and rushing the net. Perkis broke in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead.

But then the Israeli dropped his serve in the ninth game, losing four points in a row. Krickstein put the match away with a series of sizzling corner shots.

Krickstein took home a cheque for 15,000 dollars and Perkis won 7,500
