TRANSCRIPT: HARKSWORTH: "This is the main entrance to headquarters of Ansouth, a NATO command in Verona, Italy, where Brigadier-General James L. Dozier was assigned as the deputy chief of Staff for Administration and Logistics. Brigadier-General Dozier was abducted by four men disguised as plumbers from his home on December 17th and since that time the investigation into his abduction has been taken over by the Italian authorities."

    Background: VERONA, ITALY

Italian police have intensified the search for the kidnapped American Brigadier-General James Dozier. The latest communique issued by the Red Brigades on Saturday (16 January) said that the so-called 'peoples' trial' of the highest-ranking US officer at NATO's Allied Land Forces Base was simply part of a wider revolutionary strategy. In Verona itself, the cordon of police around NATO headquarters has been strengthened and officers armed with machine-guns with machine-guns search passing cars. The police presence has also been reinforced outside Brigadier-General Dozier's private residence in the northern Italian city. Italian police are said to regard the issue of Saturday's communique as a sign that the US Brigadier-General is still alive, although there is concern that no new photographs of the captured man have been released. The Red Brigades have set no conditions for his freedom. The abduction of Brigadier-General Dozier on 17 December was described by the information officer at the NATO headquarters, Major Harksworth...
