Background: The President of Eire, Sean T. Okelly, led the Irish delegation October 16 to Rome for obsequies of Pius 12, Sunday October 19.
Prime Minister Eamon de Valera, military guard of honour and crowds at Dublin airport saw the President off.
The delegation included Cardinal Giovanni D'Alton, Archbishop of Dublin, and the Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Mr. Sean MacEntee,
The Irish Ambassador at the Vatican, Mr. Leo T. McCaulay, and the Irish Ambassador-designate in Italy, Mr. Denis Devlin were meeting the Irish delegation at Rome's airport that night.
The President and Cardinal were also being greeted by heads of Irish religious orders and members of the Irish colony in Rome as well as Irish Monsignori at the Vatican.
