Background: Argentine President Maria Estela Peron received communion in her sick-bed on Sunday (27 July) as her new Economic Minister, Pedro Bonnani, was finalising details for a new emergency economic plan.
President Peron has been almost continually bed-ridden for two weeks, suffering from exhaustion, influenza, loss of weight and nervous strain.
She is due to leave Buenos Aires this week, for a short holiday at a seaside military base near Mal Del Plata, 250 miles (400 kilometres) south of the capital.
The communion service as carried out by Monsignor Gacelli, who remained with Mrs. Peron for some time ... "chatting about her health".
Mr. Bonnani used Sunday to complete his plant for a scheme to "pull the nation out of economic chaos".
The Economic Minister, who was only appointed on 21 July, met with Argentine Labour leaders on Monday (28 July) at the General Labour Confederation building.
The union leaders agreed to co-operate with Mr. Bonnani, and said they would support his plan because the Minister had guaranteed collective bargaining and price controls.
