Background: Golfers from 30 nations took advantage of the good weather to get the feel of the Portmarnock Golf Course, Dublin, Ireland, on June 22, where on June 23 they will compete for the eighth Canada Cup tournament, over 72 holes. The cup goes to the national two-man team which has the lowest joint score over the course. Players will also compete for the International Trophy, awarded to the individual with the lowest outright score.

This year the most fancied team is the United States partnership of Arnold Palmer - winner of this year's Masters Tournament and holder of the American open title, which he won recently, - and veteran Sam Snead who has won more money as a professional than any other man. Followed by a huge gallery, the 29-year-old American was the main attraction of the day.

Another strong team is the Australian couple Peter Thompson - four times winner of the British Open - and Kal Nagle, the current Australian Open Champion. These two won the Cup in 1953 and could repeat that win on their present form.

Present British Open Champion, Gary Player, teams up with old maestro Bobby Locke, for South Africa. Although Locke is having a lean season so far Player is on good form and they should do well.

The tournament will be played over four days until June 26.
