Background: A Peronist shop-keeper in Buenos Aires is selling food at half the average price in a bid to help the Peronist Party's campaign to lower Argentine fool prices.

With inflation in Argentina running at 200 per cent, food costs have soared much faster than wages.

Even the price of essentials , which carry Government maximum price limitations , have increased way beyond the reach of working and middle class families.

Government inspectors are having grave problems policing the regulations.

Shop-proprietors are over-pricing goods. They are also storing them in the hope of having the Government raise their restrictions when the items become scarce.

There are, of course, some shops closed daily by the inspectors and owners being heavily fined.

But the Peronist Party supporter is doing his best, at least.

His shop is located in a working class neighbourhood, and prices there are half the price of those asked anywhere else in Buenos Aires.

Naturally the shop does a brisk business and housewives are queuing for hours to buy.

The shop is decorated with posters and photographs depicting the late Argentine President Juan Peron, his second wife, the late Eva and his widow, and current President of Argentina, Maria Estela Peron.

The Peronist Party --- under the waning leadership of President Maria Peron -- is trying calm the economic chaos by stabilising prices.

Shops --- such as this one --- are making an attempt to co-operate and show their loyalty by decorating walls with Peronist posters. But while some make the effort, others are taking advantage of the situation Government inspectors face a difficult task enforcing price regulations. shopkeepers have been overpricing goods and hoarding supplies --- putting even essential items out of the reach of many families. Those caught are often forced to close their shops and are heavily fined. And while the people struggle through economic chaos, the political situation is still uneasy. There are now reports of rising unrest among are armed forces dissatisfied with the government's efforts to bring the country out of its crisis.
