Background: This plastic and reconstructive surgical centre was originally surveyed by C/M an American doctor in 1967 and the program started in 1968. This centre was construcassette in 1969 through the financial support of the government of Republic of Vietnam, United States Agency for International Development and private donation from citizen of USA. This centre has 174 beds and has been treated 4,126 patients since its first program. 46 Foreign doctors from US, Australia, India, Philippines, Britain and Canada have been rendered for this plastic surgical centre. Presently this centre has 150 patients under treatment. At first 35 western doctors worked for this centre, but now only five doctors remain and mostly VN doctors succeed the centre. Among the patients, only more or less 15 per cent of war victims occupy the beds. Most patients are the ones who require the plastic surgical treatment from the born. The administrative authorities said that this centre is the largest one in the world. And this centre is a part of Cho Rai hospital which is under construction by Jap aid.
